Wardenburg Health Center1s Sexual Health Education Program will observe National Condom Week Feb. 13-18 with activities to raise student awareness of sexual health.

The week will begin Feb. 13 with an information table in the UMC Loggia staffed by peer educators who will distribute condoms, AIDS awareness red ribbons, educational brochures, candy and contest information.

Peer educators will organize a condom dart game designed to educate participants about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections in a humorous way. Also scheduled is a "Be Prepared Contest" on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, and Feb. 18 to raise student awareness of such infections, a vital health issue among people of college age. Contest rules will be available in the UMC Loggia and in advertising and flyers.

Materials also will be available to support the choice of abstinence as the most effective way to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancy. The Wardenburg program encourages students to be active participants in decision-making about actions that may affect their health and to explore lifestyle decisions not involving intercourse.

National Condom Week originated in 1978 at the University of California at Berkeley.

The Wardenburg Sexual Health Education Program is accepting applications for spring volunteer training on Feb. 21 and Feb. 23.
