Technology Expo

2012 Energy Justice Technology ExpoThe Technology Expo at this year's conference is going to be an ongoing event throughout the conference that provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and companies to display and demonstrate examples of appropriate sustainable energy technologies (ASETs) for marketing promotion and education. This year's Technology Expo will be focused on 1) Indoor pollution; 2) Sanitation and drinking water; 3) Illumination; and 4) Motive power.

The Following are examples of ASETs:

Indoor pollution: Efficient cook-stoves, charcoal, biogas, passive solar, and pyrolytic cook stoves

Sanitation and drinking water: Cloth filters, desalination, solar water disinfection (SODIS), ceramic and sand filtration, nano filters (TATA Swach), water sanitation systems, Lifestraw, composting, pit latrines, urine-diversion dehydration toilets, composting toilets, and treatment ponds

Illumination: Solar powered LED lighting, and solid state lighting

Motive power: Solar rickshaws, treadle pumps, ram-pumps, rope-pumps, play pumps, local biodiesel, mechanical enhancement, improved cart-design, bicycles, feed systems, improved plows, harnesses and better yokes for draft animals.

Featured at this Year's Conference

  • Nokero

    • Nokero (short for No Kerosene) was formed in June 2010 by inventor Steve Katsaros to develop safe and environmentally-friendly solar products that eliminate the need for harmful and polluting fuels used for light and heat around the world, and most importantly, are affordable to the communities that need them.

  • Envirofit

    • Envirofit international was established to develop well-engineered technology solutions to improve the human condition on a global scale, with a primary emphasis on applications in the developing world.

  • The Engines and Energy Conversions Lab

    • Colorado State University's Engines & Energy Conversion Laboratory is confronting the global energy challenge by creating innovative energy solutions and entrepreneurial models which benefit the human condition and achieve global impact.

  • PowerMundo

    • PowerMundo builds and manages a network of customers, retailers, and suppliers to design, develop, and disseminate a suite of appropriate technology products for people in emerging markets. PowerMundo first listens to the needs of people and then displays a suite of products that may fit their needs. We connect people in developing and developed countries to improve everyone’s economic well-being, create health benefits, and conserve natural resources. PowerMundo organizes social marketing campaigns to educate people about healthy products.

  • Maithreyi Gopalakrishnan

    • Maithreyi, a sophomore engineering student at CU-Boulder and a member of the President's Leadership CLass at CU, has worked this summer to develop a low-cost, full-scalle prototype of a solar powered rickshaw that can be used in developing countries in Southern Asia.

  • Trees, Water, & People

    • Trees, Water & People (TWP) is dedicated to helping communities protect, conserve and manage the natural resources upon which their long-term well-being depends. Our Tribal Lands Renewable Energy Program harnesses the power of nature to improve the lives of Native Americans living on reservations across the Great Plains. Throughout Central America and Haiti, our healthier fuel-efficient cookstoves and community tree nurseries reduce deforestation and combat global climate change.
