Two University of Colorado Boulder professors have been elected members of the National Academy of Sciences, a top honor recognizing scientists and engineers for their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Environmental design degree returns to CU-Boulder administrative structure

 

With the start of the 2012-13 academic year, CU-Boulder has resumed the administration, management and governance of a bachelor’s degree in environmental design and is beginning a visioning process for how to fully integrate environmental design into the wide array of related programs on the Boulder campus, Provost Russell L. Moore announced today.   

CU Law School students and alumni to teach high school students statewide about the Constitution

 

More than 75 students and dozens of alumni of the University of Colorado Law School will teach a lesson on the Fourth Amendment in more than 100 high school classrooms throughout Colorado the week of Sept. 17- 21 in recognition of Constitution Day.

Constitution Day is a national event that annually commemorates the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.

CU-Boulder alumna gives $2 million to launch endowed chair in theater

 

When a young caller for the University of Colorado Boulder’s annual giving program asked Roe Green a decade ago if she would consider increasing her $100 annual gift to $150, he was the first to get the hint that Green might become a key part of the theater program from which she’d graduated in 1970.

“I told the caller, ‘Oh, I think I’d like to give more,’ ” recalled Green.

CU-Boulder ranked No. 1 for Peace Corps volunteers for second straight year

For the second straight year, the University of Colorado Boulder is ranked No. 1 in the nation for graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers with 112 undergraduate alumni currently serving around the world, the Peace Corps announced today.

CU-Boulder is ranked the No. 5 all-time school for volunteers with 2,317 alumni who have served in the Peace Corps since it was established in 1961.

Innovative CU-Boulder programs are transforming science and math education

Responding to a national crisis, CU-Boulder is putting a fresh face on how science and math courses are taught. One of those faces is Sarah Berger, who likes teaching and teaches well. But she is neither a faculty member nor a graduate-student teaching assistant. She is a sophomore in biochemistry and a learning assistant— or LA.

As she explains, students are comfortable with her because “they know that I don’t have all the answers either, so they don’t feel like I’ll think their questions are silly or dumb.”

College of Music program encourages tomorrow's music teachers

The Trying on Teaching program at the College of Music is a continuum of teaching and mentoring experiences in which middle school band students are taught by high school students, who are mentored by undergraduate music students, who in turn are advised by graduate music students.

Developed in 2008 by James Austin, professor of music education and associate dean of undergraduate studies, and Peter Miksza, assistant professor of music education, the goal is to attract the next generation of music teachers.

Final flight of space shuttle Discovery to carry two payloads built by CU-Boulder

Following a more than three-month delay due to technical problems, NASA's space shuttle Discovery will make its final flight Feb. 24 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida carrying two University of Colorado Boulder-built biomedical payload devices.
