Apollo and shuttle astronaut Vance Brand will present University of Colorado Boulder student Srinidhi Radhakrishnan with a $10,000 scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) during a public lecture and award presentation on Oct. 5.
During the presentation, which will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby of Andrews Hall, home of the Engineering Honors Program, Brand will share his experiences from the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and three space shuttle missions, in addition to presenting the award. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will address the role of public lands in American life at the University of Colorado Boulder on Sept. 13 as part of a conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of the General Land Office.
Salazar’s talk is part of a conference titled “The Nation Possessed: The Conflicting Claims on America’s Public Lands” being held at CU-Boulder Sept. 11-14. The conference is sponsored by the Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation.

University of Colorado Boulder twin sophomores Srinidhi Radhakrishnan and Saikripa Radhakrishnan -- both chemical and biological engineering majors -- have been awarded prestigious Goldwater Scholarships.
The scholarships are worth up to $7,500 for educational expenses each year and are given to students who intend to pursue careers in the fields of math, science or engineering.
University of Colorado Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today named Steven Leigh as dean of CU-Boulder’s College of Arts and Sciences. Leigh currently serves as an associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The appointment is effective July 1.

Moore today formally accepted a report by the Information, Communication, Journalism, Media and Technology (ICJMT) Steering Committee that proposes the creation of a new College of Media, Design and the Arts at CU-Boulder and a companion interdisciplinary institute.
Startup company Gogy Inc. and the University of Colorado have executed an exclusive licensing agreement that will enable the company to commercialize the Pedago.gy interactive teaching platform developed at CU-Boulder’s Leeds School of Business.
Pedago.gy is a Web application that creates a space for educators and students to engage in additional interaction and dialogue beyond the classroom. It provides a means whereby students and instructors can approach a topic in a collaborative fashion, rather than the typical expert-learner model found in most classrooms.
Patrick Mason, a professor of voice at the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Music, has been selected to receive the 2012 Hazel Barnes Prize. The prize is the highest faculty recognition for teaching and research awarded by the university.
Mason will receive an engraved university medal and $20,000, the largest single faculty award funded by CU-Boulder. He will be recognized at spring commencement on May 11 and at a reception in his honor in the fall.
