CU-Boulder Engineering Days to feature egg drop on April 19

Engineering students at the University of Colorado Boulder will host the annual College Egg Drop on April 19 as part of their annual celebration of Engineering Days.

The egg drop, which starts at 1 p.m. on the west side of the Engineering Center, challenges students to create a contraption that will protect a raw egg when dropped from the eighth floor of the Engineering Center’s office tower.

New CU-Boulder study indicates Greenland may be slip sliding away due to surface lake melt

Like snow sliding off a roof on a sunny day, the Greenland Ice Sheet may be sliding faster into the ocean due to massive releases of meltwater from surface lakes, according to a new study by the University of Colorado Boulder-based Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.

JILA team demonstrates ‘a new way of lasing,’ a ‘superradiant’ laser

Physicists at JILA have demonstrated a novel “superradiant” laser design, which has the potential to be 100 to 1,000 times more stable than the best conventional visible lasers. This type of laser could boost the performance of the most advanced atomic clocks and related technologies, such as communications and navigation systems as well as space-based astronomical instruments.
