CU student lands prestigious postgraduate position with accounting board

When it comes to social responsibility, Emily Booth is getting down to business.

Booth will graduate with distinction this May with concurrent bachelor's and master’s degrees in accounting and a certificate in Socially Responsible Enterprise from the Leeds School of Business at CU-Boulder. 

Winter commencement ceremony to be held Dec. 21

CU-Boulder will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the Coors Events Center on campus. The ceremony will honor candidates for 2,074 degrees, including 1,560 bachelor’s degrees, 384 master’s degrees, six law degrees and 124 doctoral degrees.

People attending the University of Colorado Boulder commencement ceremony on Friday, May 11, at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field will join a projected crowd of about 20,000 and should plan to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion.

Stadium gates will open at 7 a.m. for seating. No tickets are required for the ceremony, which will be held at Folsom Field regardless of the weather. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in abbreviated form.

Guests are asked to not bring large purses or bags to the ceremony. People entering the stadium may be subject to search.

First graduates of Colorado Mesa University- CU-Boulder partnership program set to graduate

Nine students who make up the first graduating class of the Mechanical Engineering Partnership Program with Colorado Mesa University will receive degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder this week.

The students have attended classes full time at CMU in Grand Junction, with CMU faculty teaching the lower-division courses and CU-Boulder faculty teaching the upper-division courses.

CU-Boulder commencement to honor more than 6,200 degree candidates May 11

The University of Colorado Boulder will hold its spring graduation ceremony on Friday, May 11, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field.

The ceremony will honor candidates for 6,237 degrees, including 4,830 bachelor’s degrees, 994 master’s degrees, 162 law degrees and 251 doctoral degrees for spring and summer.

The number of degree applications is the largest in the school’s history, and comes four years after the record-setting freshman class of fall 2008. That year, 5,833 freshmen enrolled, exceeding the previous record-setting class of 2006 that enrolled 5,617 freshmen.

CU graduating senior excels after emigrating from Romania as a political refugee

Boroka Bo, a 31-year-old senior sociology major, is graduating May 11 from the University of Colorado Boulder, 17 years after emigrating from the Transylvania region of Romania to the United States as a political refugee.

This spring, Bo received a prestigious Soros Fellowship, a program that awards 30 fellowships annually to naturalized citizens, green card holders or children of naturalized citizens. It provides up to $90,000 in support to students who plan to use their graduate education to contribute back to their communities.

Many of today’s college students use social media as their main form of communication, but getting them to use it in a professional manner can sometimes be a challenge, according to Lisa Severy, director of the University of Colorado Boulder Office of Career Services.

With many employers using social media and conducting Google searches as part of their employee screening process, creating a positive and professional online presence can go a long way in helping students land a job out of school, according to Severy.
