Frank Wedekind's timeless play is a searing indictment of Victorian prudishness wherein well-meaning parents and teachers silence any discussion of sexuality with the teenagers in their care.  In this tragedy of adolescence, characters move from desire, idealism, and exploration to suicide, abortion, and despair.
