University of Colorado, Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to present Maurice Maeterlinck’s chilling play “The Blind.”
What frightens us more? That which we can see, or that which we cannot? This question provides the undertone for the adaptation of Maeterlinck’s work. Stranded in the woods, a group awaits their leader to take them back to the safety of their home. The audience knows what the group does not; that their leader will not be returning.
In his play Maeterlinck balances the concepts of power and powerlessness, abandonment and horror and the precariousness of existence, all of which resonate with us today. The audience is drawn into the experience of metaphorical blindness – the helplessness of our species –with a newly created soundtrack which provokes a sense of dread and fear of the unknown.
