Admissions Information

You may request applications by phone, 303-492-7355, or by email, thtrdnce@colorado.edu, or you may download and print an application from the Graduate School. Please also print and submit the department checklist.
Application Materials
To be evaluated for admission, the applicant must submit the following items to the Graduate Studies Assistant, Department of Theatre & Dance, 261 UCB, Boulder, CO 80309. Incomplete applications cannot be guaranteed review for fall admission. If you have questions, please call the Graduate Studies Assistant at 303-492-7356.
Applications are reviewed by members of the Graduate Faculty in February. Their recommendations for admission are forwarded to the Graduate School of the University for final determination. Written notification regarding faculty decisions will be sent to each applicant.
The Theatre PhD program participates in the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). More information...
Checklist for Domestic Applications
Due January 15 for admission the following fall

- Application for Graduate Admission Part I
- Application for Graduate Admission Part II
- $50 Application fee made payable to the University of Colorado (or pay online if applying online).
- Two official transcripts from each institution attended. All schools, colleges, and Universities where you have studied should send official transcripts, not just those where you earned degrees. These must be sent from the school directly to the department in order to be counted as official.
- 3 or more letters of recommendation
- CV or Theatre resume
- GRE verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing scores (taken in the last 5 years)
- An 8-10 page sample of critical writing (plays and other kinds of creative writing are not accepted). PhD applicants may wish to send slightly longer samples of their work.
- Department checklist.
