CALL FOR ENTRIES
third annual NeXus concert
University of Colorado Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the call for entries for the third annual NeXus Concert. In Spring 2009, the Nexus concert played to sold-out houses of community and university
audiences. We look forward to continuing to build NeXus’ young legacy toward a thriving and cutting edge representation of new dance works; one that will soon represent the Front Range in a national conversation. This year’s concert will take place April 9 – 11, 2010.
NeXus is a concert weaving together and showcasing the choreographic talent of
the professional dance community and exceptional student artists of CU’s Dance
Division. This year’s offerings, selected by an esteemed panel of local adjudicators, will be brought together in one performance hosted and produced by CU’s Department of Theatre and Dance. Solos, duets and group works representing a rich diversity of styles and forms are encouraged to apply.
The NeXus mission is to provide an opportunity for artistic interaction between the University and the professional dance community characterized by choreographic diversity and innovation, NeXus promises an unforgettable
performance from a cross-section of selected community and university-based choreographers.
We look forward to dancing with you! Choreographers interested in having their
work presented should submit one DVD and one Choreographer’s Information Sheet for each dance. Submissions are due to the Department of Theatre and Dance by 5pm on January 13th, 2010.
Please e-mail Jessica Pearson at Jessica.Pearson@colorado.edu with any further
questions.
Technical Specifications for Choreographers:
• Time Limit: 12 minutes max
• There is no fly system, it is a dead hung pipe grid 18.5 ft from the floor.
• Scenic elements: Any scenic elements must be relatively small and completely free standing, i.e. no attachment required to floor, walls, or overhead pipe grid (load-in door dimensions are 72" high x 60" wide), and they must be able to be set up or struck in under 3 minutes.
• Aerial work: We can accommodate most standard aerial dance rigging, but the exact placement of items is dictated by the location of the limited rigging points.
• Props: small carry on hand props are fine, but offstage space is very limited, and we have very limited storage.
• Video: simple "on and off" projections used for "atmosphere" or "narrative" accompaniment for the dance will be onto the gray leno filled scrim which serves as the bounce drop for the stage.
• NO Dance for Camera will be accepted this year
