Professor of Dance, Associate Chair of Theatre &
Dance/Director of Dance. CU faculty member since 1981. Laban Movement Analyst (C.M.A.), certified by the Laban-Bartenieff Institute, NYC.
Previous teaching: Lecturer, University of California-Los Angeles, 1980-1981; Assistant Professor, Ohio State University,1975-1980.
Has taught workshops and residencies at the Colorado Dance Festival, Hunter College, Western State College, Naropa Institute, the University of Montana, Ohio State University, the Aesthetic Education Institute of Colorado, Young Audiences, and the Denver Public Schools.
Recent performances include "Mostly Solos," a 2002 solo (and one duet) performance project showcasing the work of seven contemporary choreographers: Gabriel Masson, Claire Porter, Lynn Dally, David Capps, Nancy Cranbourne, Robert Moses, and Billy Siegenfeld. Guest performer with David Capps/Dances at St. Marks Church in January, 2009.
Professional Experience: Appearances in the Boulder-Denver area with Interweave Dance Theatre, Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop, Danelle Helander and Company, The Colorado Repertory Dance Company, and David Capps and Dancers. Performed with San Francisco based choreographer Margaret Jenkins and with Lynn Dally and Dancers in Los Angeles.
Early professional training included in-depth study of the Cunningham, Horton, and Graham techniques with teachers including members of the Graham school faculty, James Truitte, Thelma Hill, Margaret Jenkins, Viola Farber, and Jeff Slayton.
Publications include several articles on dance pedagogy in the Journal of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance including "Laban Movement Analysis in Dance Education," "The Technique Class: How Can We Help Our Students to Dance?," "Presenting Creative Dance Activities to Children: Guidelines for the Non-Dancer," and "Facilitating Discovery: Problem Solving Strategies in the Technique Class."
