"I am the muffin lady!"

March 29, 2007 - In preparation for the Western tournament, eight of our girls traveled to Tennessee to join forces with the Old Girls out of Denver. After a 48 hour car ride, $41 earned by selling scavenged food, a strange banana squishing incident on the floor mats of my Subaru, and a 4 hour session of "would you rather..." we returned to Boulder after having a blast in Nash Vegas. We didn't win a single game, but definitely had the most fun of any team there. Plus, we got the chance to play the Austin Valkaries. It was a trip well worth the drive! This week we'll be preparing for Wests in hopes for a trip to the Sweet 16's in Pennsylvania. Come cheer us on as we play Texas A&M on April 7th. All the WEST INFO is now posted. Also, come to our team dinner on Saturday night (April 7th) at Johnny Carino's in Greeley at 7:00pm. - R. Hayward

CU stomps Air Force

March 16, 2007 - CU dominated possession and field position most of the first half. In the 33rd minute CU missed a penalty kick, AF countered with a deep 22M drop. AF regained possession deep in CU territory and scored with an insert from the fullback. After the missed conversion, AF led at half 5-0. Early in the second half, AF moved the ball into CU territory and scored with another fullback insert. 10-0 Air Force. Determined to stick to their game plan CU continued to dominate possession and field position. After winning a line-out deep in AF territory, CU pushed over a maul with Jaclyn Poteraj touching it down. 10-5

CU moved the ball into AF territory again, AF gave up a penalty 5 meters out. CU used the advantage to set up a ruck, with Jess Lucia picking it up and diving around the side for the score. Meg Knight on the conversion, CU takes the lead 12-10 with about 20 minutes left. After some good back and forth action, CU was able to get the ball deep into AF territory. CU won a line-out, at the AF 5 meter line, set a good platform and Hannah Kirlin touched it down in the corner. 17-10 CU, with a little less than 10 minutes left. The last of the game was played mainly in the CU half, with Air Force using the high kick to try to gain field position. CU was able to cover the kicks, and keep AF outside the 22 for the remainder of the game holding unto a 17-10 victory. - Jim Stebbins

CU takes 7th at Stanford Tournament

Jan 20 & 21, 2007- We traveled to Palo Alto by van to compete in the Stanford Invite. Twenty some hours of driving, one speeding ticket, a creepy old man in Nevada, and countless jam sessions to "Bohemian Rhapsody" left us anxious to play some rugby.

The first match against Chico State (#4) was a low scoring match up played mostly on the Colorado side of the field. In the last few minutes of the second half, Chico grabbed a loose pass from Colorado and ran it in to score the game's only tri. Final score: Chico 5, Colorado 0.

The second match against Humboldt was a rough one (especially in the rucks). Like the Chico game, most of the play was on the Colorado side of the pitch. Not until the second half did Colorado start a scoring streak. Final score: Colorado 20, Humboldt 5.

Our third match placed us against Cal (#13) who looked to have two extra sides cheering their A-squad on. It was a lonely sideline for Colorado, as we brought 17 girls to California. The game was closely matched and again, the CU women were able to hold Berkeley on the defense. In the end one breakaway by a Cal wing decided the game. Final score: California at Berkeley 7, Colorado 0.

Despite the ice baths on Saturday night, Sunday found the team sore and tired....but still ready for more rugby. We were matched up against Humboldt again and ended up winning after a much anticipated physical match. Final score: Colorado 15, Humboldt 10.

Colorado's first trip to Stanford ended in a 7th place finish. More importantly though, our girls got a chance to see some high level West Coast rugby. Hopefully we will be seeing these teams again as Sweet 16's are getting closer every week. -R. Hayward
