Why Aromatherapy?

Why use aromatherapy oils and scents? Why do we have them as part of our chair massage/Haven program?

Aromatherapy has a number of different benefits, many of which are calming and relaxing. Just think of how different smells can make you feel, like chocolate chip cookies, freshly cut grass, coffee, cigarette smoke, or dirty socks. Smell has a profound effect on us and can alter our mood, our alertness, our ability to sleep and study, and other ways we feel.
Different scents have different effects on the body, some of which are calming and peaceful, like roses, ylang ylang, sandalwood and jasmine. Some of these are also uplifting and can make a person feel happier, like rose and ylang ylang, or bergamot, lavender and other citrus scents. Some smells can have powerful effects if we have a cold, like menthols, pine smells, and citrus.

We use aromatherapy oils so people can experiment with them since it is such a simple way to change mood and feeling and can help a person relax.

Quick reference cards and books are usually placed at our tables during the Haven so you can learn more about and experience aromatherapy.

You will be able to look at and sample oils while waiting for a massage, but the smells themselves can be a powerful stress reducer.
