Call for Submissions! -
NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

& Body Acceptance Month, 2007

For each of the past four years, the student group Feminists Address the Body and the Student Wellness Program have sponsored a month of events in the spring to mark National Eating Disorders Awareness Week and Body Acceptance Month in late February and early March at CU-Boulder.  The goals are to raise awareness about issues related to body image and eating disorders, explore sources of negative body image, and encourage people to accept all individuals (including themselves) as a whole person regardless of appearance.

We are calling for art submissions for consideration to adorn promotional and informational materials that accompany the month of events.  Past years’ events have given special attention to body image as a women’s issue.  However, as every person has both a body image and the capacity to evaluate and appreciate others on the basis of their talents, skills, and unique traits, and thus inspire body acceptance, the final image should not speak exclusively to women. One artist will be chosen to collaborate with FAB to produce a final product by January 31st.  With the artists’ permission, all entries will be displayed in an art show as part of the month of events. Submissions will be accepted up to the day before the show, but only those received by January 31st will have the chance to be displayed with all of our advertising materials.

Before making a submission, explore the body image links to gain a better understanding of body image and how we advocate fostering a healthy sense of self-image.  Below are some guidelines that will give you a clear idea of what we’d like your submission to represent and express.

Purpose of the Image

  • To create awareness of the month’s events
  • To appeal to people who may not otherwise attend “body image” events (e.g., men, members of ethnic minorities, people of different sexualities)
  • To represent events as open to all individuals

Essential Components

  • Visually appealing to a broad campus community
  • Must support the values and messages being promoted during the events (i.e., body acceptance, awareness of body image and eating issues)
  • Should convey that the month is important for individuals and the community as a whole
