About the VCH

What is the Volunteer Clearing House?
Founded in 1965 by Len Barron, a student of the University of Colorado, VCH was created as a multi-faceted volunteer organization. As a fully student funded and student run organization, VCH is the volunteer placement service of CU Boulder.

History
In 1965, a handful of CU students saw a need for volunteers in the community and thus founded the Volunteer Clearing House. The organization was one of the first of it's kind in the whole nation. Since then, the Volunteer Clearing House has grown, working to fill an ever expanding range of needs and striving to serve more and more segments of the community.
The VCH is a student run cost-center that works to link up interested students with volunteer programs that best fit their individual interests and needs.

Mission Statement
To educate and empower students through volunteerism/community service thus promoting and strengthening relations between the campus and community.

VCH is committed to:

* Mobilizing student involvement in volunteerism
* Building on the idealism and enthusiasm of college students
* Increasing volunteerism as a tool for the transformation of individuals and society, and as a vehicle for social justice
* Developing leadership opportunities for students and organizations
*Promoting partnerships between campuses and communities

Today
The Volunteer Clearing House is located in room 358 of the University Memorial Center (UMC). There are currently six student staff members. Among other things, the VCH staff and volunteers work to maintain the database, help students and groups find volunteer opportunities, organize the biannual Volunteer Fairs, and house the Alternative Breaks staff.
