CU Kayak Club Information

Our Spring Informational Meeting is Thursday January 13th, from 7-8 pm in the Rec Center Conference Room 1-2. If you are unable to make it to the Spring meeting just come to any roll session (Wednesdays and Fridays 7-10pm at the Claire Small Pool)

Due to its mountainous nature, Colorado is one of North America’s premiere kayaking destinations. CU students of all skill levels can join and be a part of this exciting sport. Beginners can come and learn basic bracing and rolling technique from well-versed instructors while more advanced boaters can come practice their favorite flatwater tricks at our pool sessions. Our trips vary from afternoon hucks down your favorite local creek to multi-day, raft supported expeditions. We can provide all necessary gear for up to 10 people although many people bring their own. At its core, whitewater kayaking is a non-competitive sport, but several of our members are training in slalom and freestyle boating with the hopes of competing at the local and national levels.

How Do I Join?

Joining is as simple as attending one Roll Session which is held from 7-10pm at the Claire Small Pool. Membership fee is $50, in the fall and $35 in the spring and Kayak Club is open to people of all skill levels and provides an environment for people to get together with others of the same interest for the love of kayaking and the outdoors.

Benefits of Joining

Once joining Members are able to attend our roll practices every 7-10pm at the Claire Small Pool, where experienced boaters can practice tricks, while newer boaters can learn everything from basic Eskimo rolls to hand rolls, loops, bow stalls, and much more! Members will also learn many river skills, such as, how to read rivers, river safety, as well as how to plan and organize river trips. Members are also able to use all gear, after paying dues. Kayak club also does many group activates such as, Half-Fast Wednesday, where all members go to half fast subs after Wednesday roll sessions. As a club we also take many trips, to places like North Carolina and California.
