The American Mock Trial Association has officially released the 2011-2012 case: State v. Dawson.
This year's informational meeting for mock trial will be held on Thursday, September 1st in Hellems 199 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. More information about the meeting, tryouts, and the coming season can be found on our joining page.
We are looking forward to another fantastic year of affidavits, objections, and exotic travel!
CU Mock Trial ventured out to the sunnier shores of San Diego, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada to attend the UCSD Triton Invitational and the USC/UNLV Rebel-Trojan All-In Tournament. We had a great time in court, on the beach, and at the blackjack tables.
In early February, we also went to the not-so-sunny (but still fun) Great Plains Regional in Topeka, Kansas. CU congratulates the three invidivuals who received awards: Neil Stewart, Andre Jaen, and Lindsey Cella (who received two).
With team 1215 earning a 5-3 record and placing 9th, we'll be crossing our fingers for an open bid to Opening Round Championships. Hopefully we'll get to compete against some of our old friends one more time this year.
CU Mock Trial started its 2010-2011 season at the United States Air Force Academy in October. A big thank you to the mockers and cadets that did such a great job with the tournament, and to the legal professionals that helped judge.
Our teams had a great time at the University of Washington's Emerald City Open on December 4 and 5. One of our teams earned a 5-3 record with a CS of 20, and our other team earned a 4-4 record. We are also very proud of our individually recognized students: Kaylah Braun with 18 ranks as a plaintiff attorney; Elisa Levinson with 17 ranks as a defense witness, and Andreas Jaen with 17 ranks as a plaintiff witness.
The information sessions and tryouts for the 2010-2011 CU Mock Trial team are now set. We will hold information sessions on September 8th and 9th at 6:00 pm in Hellems 252 with tryouts during the next week on September 14th and 15th.
This year's case is Davis v. HappyLand Toys, a product liability case based on real events. In this case, a toddler died after ingesting beads that contained a chemical compound which metabolized into GHB.
This year's tournament schedule is still under construction, but we will release it to team members once it is finalized. We will also announce the dates for the 2011 Colorado Classic once we set a weekend (likely in early February).
This spring was a busy time for CU Mock Trial. We sent our teams to Nashville, Las Vegas, and San Diego for their spring invitational tournaments. We also hosted the second annual Colorado Classic, participated in regional tournaments in Topeka, Kansas, and Columbia, MIssouri, and finally earned an open bid to the opening round championship in Irvine, California.
We want to extend our sincere thanks to the University of Southern California, the University of California at San Diego, Vanderbilt University, Columbia College, Washburn University, and the University of California at Irvine for being such excellent hosts this spring! We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
We will begin our recruiting period for the 2010-2011 team this September. Keep an eye out for our flyers, Buff Bulletin, and table at the activities fair.
