For the advancement of scientific literacy and the promotion of interest in the biological fields, the BSJC was formed to provide a forum for discourse on contemporary publications and feedback for undergraduates on current research.
The BSJC meets biweekly on Tuesday to discuss contemporary publications and on-going research. Its objectives are:
To foster discussions on journal publications.*
To host guest presenters.**
To provide a forum for undergraduates to present on-going research.
To provide a forum for Honors candidates to present their theses for feedback and practice. |
*For every article we discuss, one person (or group of people) will:
(a) chose a primary article, letter, or review article of interest
(b) perform background research on the topic, answering all the basic questions (who, what, why, how, methods used, caveats of methods, certanty of results, caveats of conclusions deduced, future research possibilities, etc.)
(c) distribute the article to the other members of the club via the website (we are currently designing on a real website that will be posted as soon as our request for webspace goes through the bureaucracy; until then, the facebook group liked above will suffice)
(d) summarize the article to the club at the next meeting and raise questions to be considered
(e) foster the subsequent discussion of the aforementioned questions.
There can be several people/groups presenting an article at each meeting so that a broader range of interests can be accommodated.
**Graduate students and professors, usually presenting journal articles of particular interest or summarizing their past or present research. |
