SpaceVision 2011 [SEDS National Conference]
SEDS national conference is being hosted in Boulder in October 27-30 - Register Now!!. This event is expected to draw 300+ students and young professionals from across the nation for a weekend packed full of lectures, panels, and informational sessions (this is the event that Bill Nye is coming to Colorado for!). There is a strong need for volunteers to help in the continuing planning process and to help during the event itself.

WeWantOurFuture [Outreach]
This is an ongoing outreach project that aims to get educational materials into the hands of teachers so they can inspire their students in the arena of space at an early age. The students are encouraged to create a post-card drawing of what they picture the future to be like.

USLI (University Student Launch Initiative) [Rocket Project]
This is the rocket group that has a competition to launch a scientific payload to an altitude of 1 mile. The group has been in the design stage since Spring 2011, but still encourages help in any and all forms. This is a great introduction to the engineering process in a university setting.

NASA Microgravity University [Research Project]
This project offers the opportunity to ride aboard the "Vomit Comet" as it follows its parabolic trajectory and everything in the aircraft experiences weightlessness! There are currently 2 microgravity projects in progress at CU, and their work is continuing  with success in mind. However, it would be great to see a third project started and submitted from CU! There is no limit on the number of projects can be submitted/selected from a single university. There was a great amount of interest for micrograv at our kickoff meeting, and I would love to see a third project come about. I will personally help organize a group if the interest exists.

MIRAGE (Link)

MIRAGE is working towards designing an experiment that will examine the potential for the use of microgravity environments to create unique materials whose mass and tensile properties will exceed those created on earth.

VULCAN (Link)

VULCAN (Verifying Unaddressed Levels of Convection at Null-gravity) is a team comprised of a group of undergraduate engineering students at the University of Colorado that are participating in the NASA Microgravity program. The project focused on verifying correlations of convection in the absence of gravity.

Yuri's Night [World Space Party] (Link)

The 2012 Yuri's Night World Space party is being held again this year at the Lazy Dog Saloon on the Pearl Street Mall. Thanks Lazy Dog!

Yuri's Night is an international celebration held on April 12 every year to commemorate space exploration milestones. The event is named for the first human to launch into space, Yuri Gagarin, who flew the Vostok 1 spaceship on April 12, 1961 and the first space shuttle launch on the same date just 20 years later in 1981.

The goal of Yuri's Night is to increase public interest in space exploration and to inspire a new generation of explorers. CUSEDS has hosted the event in Boulder for the past six years. Every year there are more than 300 events on every continent and even in space!
