African Art and Fashion Explosion

African fashion show


The African Students’ Association is hosting our annual African art and fashion explosion featuring a skit, music, dance performances, display of art works and Selasee and Fafa Family band. The highlight of this event is the Fashion Show. There will be snacks and drinks at the show. This event is free and open to all. It starts at 5:30pm at UMC 235 on Friday, February 17th, 2012.

The African Students' Association is hosting our ninth annual African night
featuring dance performances, bands including Selasee and Fafa Family, an
African fashion show and African prizes. There will be food from Ghana,
Nigeria, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Kenya, Morocco and the Democratic
Republic of Congo. This event is free and open to all. It starts at 5:30 p.m. at the
CU Boulder Rec. Center on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011.

Join the African Students' Association in a celebration of our continent's culture, language and legacy. We invite you to experience the rich foods from countries such as Senegal, Morocco, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Ghana. Dinner will be served so come ready to try new and exotic African dishes. Special music performances by Logo Ligi, Oyoyo, and the ASA Dance Troupe! The event is free and open to the Public.

Friday April 2nd, from 7pm - 9pm (Doors open @ 6:30pm), the African Students' Association will be hosting its 7th Annual African Culture and Art Explosion! This is a great opportunity for members of the CU campus and the Boulder community to be immersed in a night of rich African culture. The event will feature African performances, music and a fashion show showcasing authentic African clothing. There will also be an African Art exhibit. Last but not least, no African gathering would be complete without FREE AUTHENTIC AFRICAN FOOD. The event is free and open to the Public.

The African Students' Association presents our 7th Annual Taste of Africa! This year's event will be featuring greats performances by Zivanai Masango a Zimbabwean artist and Omar Ali a Kenyan artist. There will be authentic African food from Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Morocco. This event is free and open to the public, so please come and join us for a night enriched in African culture!

The African Students' Association and Girls Education International are partnering up to bring CU Boulder a special screening of Pray the Devil Back to Hell, a documentary film about the power of grassroots organizing. It tells the story of thousands of Liberian women who banded together to promote peace and end the 14-year civil war in Liberia. The screening is free to the public. The event will feature African performances and music and a fashion show showcasing the clothing of several African designers and our members. There will also be an African Art exhibition featuring pieces from the Rand African Art and The All Africans Shop. Last but not least, no African gathering would be complete without FREE AUTHENTIC AFRICAN FOOD. The event is free and open to the Public.






African Unity Conference 2007

On Saturday March 3rd, the African Students' Associations on the Campuses of CU-Boulder, CSU Fort Collins and the campuses of Denver Metro will be coming together for an unprecedented Unity Conference. Community African organizations are welcome to attend in order to lend their support in our attempt to unify African student groups on Colorado campuses. The Main speaker at the conference will be President of the Rocky Mountain Ghana Council, Dr. Sam DeSouza. There will also be two workshops, one of which will be led by Poet, Activist and Journalist, Iya Ta'Shia Asanti.

African Film Series

The African Film series is a free event that is intended to showcase some of the powerful films that reflect on both current past economic,social, and political issues that have affected the continent of Africa. After each film, a discussion will be facilitated by a guest speaker. On Friday the 20th the daughter of Bishop Desmond Tutu, Naomi Tutu, will be speaking on the Oscar nominated film, TSOTSI.

ASA will be hosting their 2nd annual Taste of Africa. The Taste of Africa is a unique event in Boulder that gives the community a chance to experience and taste some of the beautiful cultures of the African continent. The event includes a myriad of performances from various regions of the continent. African culture is celebrated through dance, music, poetry and song. Of course, let us not forget the main highlight of our event: a presentation of amazing African dishes from across the continent. We invite you to put on your favorite African attire and join us in our celebration of the motherland. Don’t forget to bring along friend and family!

Sudan Awareness Conference

ASA is one of the sponsors helping to bring this conference to life in Boulder. This is a great chance to learn about the conflict taking place in Sudan.

ASA/BSA Joint Meeting

Location: UMC's Aspen Room | Date: 1 September 2005 | Time: 6:45pm

ASA and the BSA will hold a joint general meeting to welcome their [new] members. This is a great opportunity to meet officers from both organization as well as catch up with friends and meet new faces! This promises to be a fun event. Refreshments will be on hand!

The Aspen room is located on the UMC's 2nd floor.

African American Panel discussion

Location: UMC's Aspen Room | Date: 1 September 2005 | Time: 5:30pm

The Center for Multicultural Affairs will host a panel discussion for incoming freshman and transfer students. The discussion promises to be interesting. The panel will be composed of various black faculty, staff and students including the BSA president Emem Ekiko and the ASA president Brice Pellé.

The Aspen room is located on the UMC's 2nd floor.

Friends for Peace in Africa Conference

Location: Denver, CO | Date: 2 July 2005

ASA gathered funding to attend the FPA conference. The conference aimed at discussing ways in which Africans abroad can take actions back home and promote change. Key features included a speach by Dr. Pius Kamau, panelists from around Africa, a documentary on Night Commuters and a silent auction.
