Article I. Name

a. 4 Wheelin' Club

Article II. Mission Statement

a. The CU 4 Wheelin' Club has been instated for the purpose of providing a

positive social environment for students interested in four wheel trail exploring.

 The club provides ample opportunities to investigate and access

portions of Colorado's wilderness which would otherwise be inaccessible and

unseen to many outdoor enthusiasts. Club activities include four wheeling

trips and educational programs. The trips are day and multi-day excursions over

breaks and weekends. During these trips proper trail conservation, good driving

techniques, and overall personal and vehicle safety are stressed. Members have

the possibility to participate in hiking/ backpacking and any other student-

driven suggestions (ie fishing or rock climbing). Educational programs consist

of mechanical instruction to encourage self maintenance, repair, and

modification to the vehicles involved. Four wheeling is an inherently social

activity and as there is a large demand amongst the community for four wheeling

and related outdoor activities we feel that all benefit from an organization of

the activity especially with university support.

Article III. Membership

Section I. Members

a. Members will include anyone interested that is a full fee paying CU student

or alumni who have graduated from CU.

Section II. Membership Requirements

a. In order to become a member persons must attend one trail ride within a

semester. Members must also attend each mandatory meeting. Mandatory meetings

will be determined by club officials.

b. As a member of this club, persons are required to follow the guidelines on

trail usage given by TREAD LIGHTLY! when participating in a trail ride,

campout, or any other Off-Highway Vehicle activity.

c. Members are required to have useable tow hooks on their vehicle, when on a

trail ride.

d. Members are also required to have either a roll bar of some sort or a solid

hard top for their vehicle for obvious safety reasons.

e. In order for members to participate in an organized trail run, they must

show a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of personal

insurance.

f. Members are required to carry a fire extinguisher easily accessible on their

vehicle.

Section III. Dues

a. Members are not required to pay mandatory dues. Members may pay optional

dues. Dues would cover any membership fees for state and national four wheel

drive associations.

Article IV. Elected Officers

Section I. Officers

a. Officers in this club will include four chairs. There will be a chair in

charge President, Trail Ride Organizer, Sponsor Liaison and

Communications Operative . Only CU students may hold these offices.

Section II. Duties of officers

a. President. The President will be the contact between the

University and the club, head financial officer, and general club advisor. As

President, the officer is responsible for maintaining a positive interaction between

club and university. They report any mandatory club updates with the university.

The president is responsible for scheduling meetings and registering the club with

 SOFO and UCSU. As head financial officer, the president must maintain any and

all financial records, obtain university funding (if applicable) and coordinate any

fundraising events. As general club advisor, the president will help direct any other

office as needed. The President will also be directly responsible for the duties of

all un-held chair positions, and may be elected to officially hold those chairs as

well.

b. Trail Ride Organizer. The Trail Ride Organizer is the officer responsible

for planning and organizing both day trips and multi-day trips. The officer

will have the ability to form a sub-committee which will aid in the selecting

and scouting of possible trails. The Trail Ride Organizer may also select a

Trail Boss for each and every trip. That trail boss is to help in planning,

securing directions, maps and all other vital information. If more than one

trail is being done the same or different leader will guide the trail. The

trail leader should have experience with the trail and precise knowledge of how

to get there. The officers will select the trail leader, and a he/she must have

a CB.

c. Sponsor Liaison. The sponsor liaison is directly responsible for securing

due payments concerning any four wheel drive associations with which the club

is involved. The officer is also responsible for educational programs to occur

twice each semester.

d. Communications Operative. The officer will maintain the club website and

email system. Operative will be responsible for all club advertisements both

within the university (including flyers to be posted in dormitory halls and

UMC) and the Boulder community at large.

Section III. Elected Officers

a. Only active members may hold office and they will be elected in the

following way. All members interested in holding the particular office will be

given a chance to give a small speech to the group during the meeting. They

will then leave the room and a short discussion will follow. The current chairs

will count the votes. All offices are held for one semester, and there is no

limit to the number of times a person can hold office. Elections will be held

the first meeting of the fall and spring semester. If a person does not want to

hold office again, they cannot be forced to take it. In other words, only

persons interested can be voted into office. The position of President will be

 voted on if a meeting is available, however if a current president leaves office

 unexpectedly between business meetings, the current chairs may appoint an

interim president until an official election can be held at the next business meeting

Article V. Meetings

Section 1. Business meetings

a. Business meetings will be held once a month, to be organized by the

President. He or she will designate the time and location. All

amendments will be suggested and passed by first being suggested by an active

member, then seconded by another active member, and finally voted on by all

active members present by the raising of hands. At least 2/3 of the members

present must agree to pass an amendment. Minutes from the last meeting will be

read at each meeting to bring members who did not attend previously up to speed.

Section 2. Chair Meetings

a. All executive board meetings will be planned and scheduled by club officers.

No amendments may be passed at these meetings; however, they will be used to

discuss anything involving the club, including the dismissal of members, or

special events like the fundraisers or charity events. Minutes will be kept of

these meetings and will be read by the President at the club meeting

immediately following the executive board meeting.

Article VI. Removal of Officers and Members

Section 1. Removal of Members

a. In order for a member to be removed, all of the officers must vote in favor

of the removal. Then the idea is presented to the members at a meeting. The

member in question will be given a maximum of one week before removal voting

can occur. For the member to be removed, greater than 2/3 percent of the

members must agree.

Section 2. Removal of Officers

a. For an officer to be removed from office, the chairs must be approached by

at least four persons, regarding the removal, prior to a club meeting. The

officer in question will be given a maximum of two weeks before removal voting

can occur. A minimum of 2/3 votes must be passed in order for an officer to be

removed. If an officer is removed, he or she will finish his or her duties for

that meeting and nominations for the open position will begin at the end of the

meeting following standard procedures. Nominations will cease and the election

for the open officer position will occur during the following monthly business

meeting.

Article VII. Amendments

Section 1. Amendments

a. Any amendments to this constitution must be suggested to a club officer one

week prior to a business meeting, so he or she has time to plan for the vote.

At the meeting, which is decided on by the member and the President, a time

will be provided for the member to present his or her amendment, and a

discussion regarding it. The amendment must then be seconded by another active

member, and voted in place by a 2/3-majority vote, in the form of raised hands

in favor.

Article VIII. By-Laws

Section 1. By-Laws for Trail Runs

a. All members participating in the trail run must follow all road rules and

regulations set forth by Colorado, or any state that the trail run happens to

be in.

b. There will be positively no alcohol or other drugs allowed on any trail run.

If found, individuals involved will be asked to leave.

c. All members participating in the trail run are expected to operate their

vehicle in a safe manner and follow all guidelines given by TREAD LIGHTLY!

Article IX. Committees

Section 1. Formation of Committees

a. Ideas for committees from members or officers will be discussed at the

executive board meeting and then voted upon by the officers. Committees will be

made up of members interested or appointed by the officer in charge of that

committee.

Article XII. Trail Runs

Section 1. Day Runs

a. The officers at the board meeting will select the run, and any member is

welcome to suggest a run. More than one trail run per month may be planned.

b. People behind the trail leader must keep both the person in front and behind

in their sight, and keep a fair distance as well.

c. If possible, a tail-gunner who is a member will be provided to make sure

everyone is going the right direction. The tail-gunner must be in radio contact

with the trail leader.

Section II. Extended Trips/Camping

a. The officers will plan trips throughout the year. Some of these trips will

have destinations out of the state of Colorado. Members are required to make

their own reservations, although assistance from the Trail Ride Organizer will

be provided.

b. Members are required to bring their own gear and should be prepared for

break-downs.
