Mandatory Student Fee Programs

Every full-time student attending CU-Boulder pays a mandatory student fee of $309.32 during the 2005-06 academic year. This fee is used to support the "big three" cost centers (the Recreation Center, Wardenburg Health Center, and the University Memorial Center) as well as smaller cost centers. The fee also supports referendum groups that receive a portion of the fee based on a vote by the students. These referendum groups are listed below. Arts and sciences, engineering, law, and other CU-Boulder college and school student governments receive another portion of the mandatory fee, based on enrollment figures for each college and school.

The 2005-06 student fee breakdown below shows the total allocation to areas funded by the mandatory fee. Several of the organizations funded by mandatory student fees make allocations to both affiliated and independent student groups for special projects, conference travel, or events within the guidelines of the Student Fee Regulations and organizational bylaws. These organizations include the UCSU Representative Council, the Council of Colleges and Schools, Arts and Sciences Student Government, and the Cultural Events Board. Since these allocations also involve mandatory fee money and therefore state funds, the policies governing all fees apply to these allocations.

All mandatory and optional student fee-funded groups must follow the Student Fee Regulations, available at the SOFO (UMC 231) and UCSU (UMC 125) offices. Because student fees are also state funds, state fiscal rules must be applied to expenditures, as well as the rules of the Committee on Use of University Facilities (CUUF) and Financial Services. The SOFO staff will assist you with your financial transactions while working within these guidelines.
