Portal Announcements Task Force
Commission and Goals
The Announcements task force should build recommendations for process,
policy and guidelines related to publishing announcements directed toward
students within the portal. For the prototype, the task force should also
define specific announcement generation test groups, assuming that it
will not be feasible to funnel all university announcements through the
prototype.
The announcement submission process design should take the following
into consideration:
- portal announcements will be just one electronic communication
tool, working in concert with ememos, buff bulletin and individual emails;
-
some announcements are “vital” and must be mandatory for students
to read;
-
some announcements are “optional” and students should be able
to opt out of reading them;
- the publication of some announcements should be able to be delegated
to specified departments;
- some announcements will require review by a central authority point;
- announcements should be able to be targeted to specific audiences (e.g.,
by class level, college/school, major)
- the announcement process must be able to fold into the technical framework
recommended by the technical development team.
Timeframe
- Recommendations prepared for Core Team preliminary review at
February 24, 2003 meeting.
- Recommendations coordinated with Technical Development Team by March
