Progress toward Spring semester Portal Launch

  • Personal calendaring. The project tech team has successfully incorporated the SunOne calendar within the portal. The plan is to simultaneously launch personal calendaring and the student portal to the students in January.
  • WebCT. The project tech team has built a WebCT channel. A few issues still need cleaning up but the outlook is excellent for WebCT within the portal for January.
  • Student Schedule. New format was discussed. Suggestions/comments include
    • Columns being added to the schedule format that was used during the prototype: grade, quality points. Instructor name will be displayed below the Course Number field.
    • Math mods test scores will probably display beneath the schedule (design work is in process).
    • Books will need to be displayed – either as a detail drill down or as a separate channel. Gary and Rick will meet to discuss details re. book data.
    • Add Term GPA to the schedule channel
    • If displayed, waitlist position must be real-time (include in SOAP call to/from SIS)
    • Session/Term is needed for Continuing Ed all year long (not just for summer sessions).
    • Change the title of the channel to reflect that it contains both schedule and grades.
    • AI: Barb T will write up the Grade Type definitions to be included in the schedule channel documentation
    • AI: Gary will check stats for when people are checking grades vs. when people are checking the schedule so we can make a wise choice for when to start displaying the new semester schedule as the default.
    • Electronic reserve information was suggested as another feature. AI: Ask John C where this info is stored.
  • Final Exam Schedule.
    • Proposed as separate channel (see UDel portal example)
    • Location of Final is often not where the class is held. AI: Barb T will find out how location is handled.
    • Final Exam information should be available by census date for each term.
    • Final Exam channel should include a link to the final exam policy.

Miscellaneous

  • Channel documentation should include information re. who to report data problems to.
  • Consider adding suspension/probation information to the profile channel. (This would require adding these attributes to the Enterprise Directory.)
  • Core voted to include the “Student News” and “Health & Wellness News” channels as part of the default profile.
  • Provost should be added to the communications/outreach list. AI: Paula will talk to Dennis about this.
  • AI: Malinda: Add Honor Code and Registrar to the Academic Links.

November Meeting

  • Next meeting: November 12, 3 p.m., Telecom 215
  • AI: For this meeting bring an inventory of every place PLUS references need updating to Portal references.
  • AI: For this meeting bring marketing ideas for introducing the campus to the portal.
