CU-Boulder
Resources for Engaging Conflict Productively The
University of Colorado at Boulder has many programs, services, and
positions dedicated to helping students, faculty, and/or staff engage
productively with difficult conversations and issues. This sheet
provides basic information and contact information for many of those
resources. Resources are listed in alphabetical order. If you are aware

Motivated Incident Response Team A
product of the Building Community Campaign designed to create a rapid
response network of campus individuals and units trained in and
sensitive to issues of bias and discrimination who could mobilize to
respond to incidents of bias when they occur. Bias Motivated Incidents
may be reported by calling 303-735-1028. If a crime has occurred, the
group encourages affected persons to contact the CU Police Department
at 303-492-6666. A bias motivated incident reporting form can also be

Community Campaign A
program of the Division of Student Affairs working to create a safe,

Chancellor currently has four standing committees designed to address,
examine, and advise on matters of bias or inequity affecting these

Dialogue Network The
Dialogue Network is a group of CU Faculty, Staff, and students
committed to fostering dialogue and promoting positive strategies for
dealing with difficult conversations on campus. This group works
together to
teach classes, provide workshops, conduct trainings, and facilitate

Education Team The
Diversity Education Team (DET), a program of the Center for
Multicultural Affairs,
works collaboratively with individuals and departments within the
university to offer diversity education. DET training seminars and
workshops cover all forms of oppression, with a particular focus on the
history, feelings, and experiences of people of color and multiracial
individuals in the context of the United States. DET offers
individually tailored seminars to requesting departments, groups, or

Theatre Project The
Interactive Theater Project examines issues such as sexual assault,
heterosexism, racism, anti-Semitism, suicide, workplace conflict, and
other topics that impact the university community. This project is a
service of the Wardenburg Community Health Education Department.

Office of Judicial Affairs oversees adjudication of student misconduct
on campus. They

of Sexual Harassment The
mission of the Office of Sexual Harassment Policy is to prevent and
eliminate sexual harassment at the University of Colorado at Boulder. www.colorado.edu/sexualharassment/ Office
of Victim Assistance The
Victim Assistance Program is an advocacy and support office that
assists victims of crimes, accidents, sexual assaults, or other
traumas. They can advise students of their rights, available services,
and generally how best to deal with their situation. Victim Assistance
is not equipped to deal with emergencies on a 24-hour basis, but they
can get involved soon after being contacted. Affected parties should
call emergency numbers first, then Victim Assistance at 492-8855.
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm call 492-6666 (CU police) to have a Victim
Advocate paged. Ombuds
Office The
Ombuds Office at the University of Colorado at Boulder provides
informal, impartial, and confidential dispute resolution services for

on Student Classroom and Course-Related Behavior In
response to concerns from both faculty and students regarding classroom
and course-related behavior, the University of Colorado at Boulder has
developed a policy governing classroom interaction to guide students
and faulty in their classroom dealings. This policy is available

on the Use of University Facilities A
campus policy governs the use of university facilities. In response to
recent concerns, an addendum to this policy related to chalking on

on Religious Holidays The
University of Colorado at Boulder has a legal and moral obligation to
accommodate all students who must be absent from classes or miss
scheduled exams in order to observe religious holidays; we must be
careful not to inhibit or penalize these students for exercising their
rights to religious observance. Toward this end we have a policy on

Justice Program In
addition to standard processes, the Office of Judicial Affairs also has
a program that uses principles of "restorative justice" as an
alternative to our Student Judicial Affairs process. This is a
collaborative project involving the Ombuds Office, Office of Judicial
Affairs, the University Police Dept., Housing, the Office of Victim
Assistance, and the Student Conflict Resolution Service. Judicial
Affairs may use this approach when students who violate the Student
Code of Conduct admit wrongdoing and indicate a willingness to resolve

Code of Conduct The
University of Colorado at Boulder has a student code of conduct based
on maintaining the general welfare of the university community. The
university strives to make the campus community a place of study, work,
and residence where people are treated with respect and courtesy. www.colorado.edu/studentaffairs/judicialaffairs/code.html Women's Resource Center The Women's Resource Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder serves as a resource for the university community. From a lens of gender equity and social justice they advocate for people of all genders, backgrounds, races, classes, ages, sexual orientations, political and religious beliefs, ethnicities, nationalities and abilities. The WRC strives for diversity at a core level in all of their programming and resources, as well as among their Staff, Volunteers, and Board members.
