About the Interim AVC and Dean of Students
Dr. Karen Raforth is currently the interim Dean of Students and Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, as well as the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Karen is an alumna of UCB receiving her master's and doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She also holds a master's of education in Counseling from University of Texas at Austin.
Karen has been a licensed clinical psychologist in Colorado for over 25 years. She believes that a counseling center staff should be engaged in not only clinical work to help students in distress but also to reach out to those in the campus community who will never enter CAPS' door. Karen works for the "ripple effect": educating all campus community members to help each other or assist each other in getting help when needed.
She particularly enjoys consulting with individuals, groups and departments about students of concern and making presentations about CAPS' free services. Karen strives to offer a diverse staff to the CU community to meet the wide variety of needs.
