About the Vice Chancellor

Julie Wong

Julie Wong has been a higher education administrator for over 18 years and currently serves as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at CU-Boulder. Julie provides vision and leadership to a division comprised of over 30 departments committed to student success.

Prior to assuming her current position she was the associate vice president and dean of students at the University of Texas at El Paso. She also served as the founding dean of students at the University of California San Diego, Sixth College and as the associate dean for campus life and director of student activities at Chapman University. Her career in Student Affairs began in Residence Life at the University of California Berkeley and California State University, Los Angeles.

In 2007, Julie was the recipient of the NASPA Asian Pacific Islander Knowledge Community Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award for Outstanding Service to the Asian American Community. One of her recent projects was chair of the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez Binational Arts & Culture District Design Competition. This innovative project links the largest international border metroplex in North America through urban planning, architecture, public art, and public spaces.

Julie went to San Jose State University and became a Spartan while getting her bachelor's degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies. She later became a Michigan State University Spartan in pursuit of her master’s degree in College & University Administration. One of her proudest moments was having her family watch her graduate from the University of Southern California and become a Trojan with a PhD in Organizational Planning and Administration. Julie was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and is an avid traveler. She enjoys reading, biking, and meeting new people.
