Student Affairs Vision, Mission, Goals and Initiatives

Vision

As a Division, Student Affairs strives to enroll, educate, serve, and graduate students who are fully prepared to be outstanding contributors to society.

Mission

We inspire, educate, and support students in their efforts to excel personally and academically, demonstrate high levels of integrity, and exhibit a strong commitment to building a just and equitable world for all people. We encourage our students to write, speak, and think critically, and to become skilled and knowledgeable in their academic disciplines. We help our students develop a healthy sense of identity as individuals and as members of a community, placing high value on the ability to thrive both independently and interdependently. At CU-Boulder, we place particular emphasis on cross-cultural appreciation and literacy, ethical leadership, and a commitment to civic engagement and social justice.

Goals

Student Development
We directly support students' development as successful, intellectually curious learners, and as healthy, competent, socially, environmentally, and civically aware citizens.

Building Community
We foster a safe, open, and welcoming community at CU-Boulder that supports and nurtures the healthy development and sense of belonging of all members of the campus community.

Diversity
We strive to create a socially just campus community. Further, we foster diversity by attracting, hiring, and retaining exceptional students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds in order to enrich the campus environment. We also strive to promote and support a socially just community through education, advocacy, and accountability.

Organizational & Professional Development
We model in ourselves the behavior and values we expect of our students. We constantly learn and grow even as we teach and serve; and we work collaboratively with students and colleagues in achieving our shared vision.

Excellent Service
We treat our students, faculty, staff and parents with care and respect by holding ourselves to a standard of excellent service in all that we do. We offer programs, services, and facilities that help the student begin, navigate, and complete their university experience while deriving the greatest value from their education at CU-Boulder.

Initiatives, programs, and services at the divisional and departmental levels that focus on these goals include Student Development Committee, Building Community Campaign, Student Affairs Diversity Committee, Healthy Community Project, Leadership Initiatives, Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement, Excellent Service Initiative, and Organizational and Professional Development Committee.
