YiaYiasDan presented his thesis during the deparmental seminar on Friday and during his talk, he explained how gene trees, their structure and their variation across the genome, lie at the heart of many evolutionary biology questions.  Following his defense, we adjourned to Yia-Yia's for one last round of polynesian pizza (highly recommended!!). Dan is moving on to a postdoctoral position with Jeffrey Ross-Ibarra at the University of California-Davis, but be on the lookout for soon-to-come publications from his exciting thesis chapters!
