Dr. Anu Sharma, Ph.D., CCC-A For more than 10 years, Dr. Sharma's research has examined issues related to brain development in children with cochlear implants. In particular, she is interested in examining cortical maturation in children with unilateral and bilateral cochlear implants and in children who are fitted with hearing aids. Dr. Sharma’s research is exploring issues related to sensitive periods for central auditory development, cortical re-organization and cross-modal plasticity in children with cochlear implants. In a related line of research, Dr. Sharma is developing clinical biomarkers for auditory cortical maturation in children with hearing impairment and cochlear implants.
Dr. Sharma is the principal investigator of two grants from the National Institutes of Health. Her NIH funded work on cochlear implants has been highlighted in a report presented to the United States Congress. She has also received grants from the National Organization for Hearing Research and American Hearing Research Foundation. Dr. Sharma has won awards for her research at international scientific meetings. She regularly gives keynote addresses at national and international conferences.
Dr. Phillip Gilley, Ph.D.
Post-doctoral Research Fellow
STUDENTS
Julia Campbell, B.A. Lab Manager Julia is currently in the Au.D. program within the department. Her focus lies in auditory evoked potentials, particularly ABR,
and perceptual studies involving various methods of auditory processing.
She enjoys swimming, running, food, the arts, and tuning forks.
Katie Brooks, B.A.
Katie is a native of Colorado and graduated with
her B.A. from C.U. Boulder’s SLHS department in the spring of 2006.
Katie is interested in a wide variety of topics, especially aural
rehabilitation and ABR. She enjoys sunny hikes, traveling, good tunes
and raspberry-wheat beer from Southern Sun. Katie is excited to be a
part of the team!
Garrett Cardon, B.S.
Birthday: September 4, 1979 I grew up in My other interests are very diverse. These include,
but are not limited to, camping, backpacking, snowboarding, rodeo
clowning, and fishing. I also enjoy a good game of kickball every now
and then. You can also find me regularly cutting a rug at the local
swing dancing venues. During the past three years I have attended
several rodeos, a monster truck rally, a demolition derby, a tractor
pull, the Denver symphony, the circus, a dinner theater, football games,
the Renaissance Festival, numerous museums, the Genoa Tower in Limon,
CO, and a host of other interesting, fun, and strange activities. Amy Nash obtained a Master's degree in Audiology from the University of Utah in 2002. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Audiology, with a focus on Neuroscience. Amy is also the Early Care Coordinator for the Bright EYES (Early Years Education Stewards) Initiative for the City of Longmont. Amy holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. Most of Amy's experience is with the pediatric population, having worked as a part-time educational audiologist for a few years before returning to graduate school. She enjoyed working with children and their families, but also loves the university environment. She has taught several undergraduate-level courses for the SLHS Department at CU Boulder, including "Disabilities in Contemporary American Society," and "Science of Human Communication." Current research interests revolve around variability of high density EEG recordings. Amy is the mother of three small girls, enjoys hiking and travel (the picture above was taken at a guard tower of the Great Wall of China), was a symphony musician in a former life (part of her undergraduate career relied upon music scholarships), and likes to pretend she's a good gardener. Megan Read, B.S.
Megan was born and raised Texas, and is a true southern girl who loves thunderstorms, chai tea, country music and the San Antonio Spurs. Her interests include sign language and the development of the auditory system in cochlear implanted children. Tracy White, M.S.
I was born and raised in Michigan, but after a considerable amount of travel throughout the US, I now call Colorado home. It's where I earned my MS in Applied Math, met and married my husband, and am now pursuing my PhD/AuD in Audiology. My research interests include evoked potentials, cortical reorganization in auditory deprivation, and language processing. Extracurricular passions include my husband, caving, hiking, camping, the mountains, rivers, and really big lakes!
