Art and Animals

Why do animals native to North America appear differently from animals native to South America? What are reef dwellers; what might some look like; and what are their lives like?

In this fast-paced program, students are taught how to draw animals using basic shapes and drawing techniques, "capturing" them with pencil and paper. Students also learn about the diverse environments in which these animals exist, and how that influences the way these creatures look. Students will draw approximately five pictures. Handouts and support materials are included.

When requesting a program, please choose a specific region of the world or group of animals from this list:

  • South American Rainforest Animals
  • African Animals
  • North American Animals
  • Australian Animals
  • Polar Animals
  • Colorado Animals
  • Marine Mammals
  • Sharks and Rays
  • Ocean Fish
  • Reef Dwellers
  • Dinosaurs
  • Primates
  • Reptiles and Amphibians
  • Surprising Animals

This program supports the Colorado Model Content Standards for Science: 3.
