Life in Ponds & Streams – A Field Class What secrets lie beneath the surface of the stream flowing by us, or the pond over there? What animal left those unusual tracks along the water's edge? What kind of nest is that between the branches above? What is the name of that insect that buried its larvae beneath the mud? Are all of these things in a pond or stream ecosystem somehow connected? We will answer these questions and many more as we explore a new pond or stream each day. We will look at the smallest animals under a microscope and catch larger ones with a net. We'll make clay animals and plaster casts of tracks. Join us for this watery adventure! Please note: This is a field class. Students will be transported in university vans with a trained driver. Students need sturdy walking shoes, wading shoes, hat, daypack, waterproof windbreaker, water bottle, a non-peanut snack each day (July 5-7 week please also bring a lunch), as well as sunscreen and repellent pre-applied. *Students must be at least 6 years of age by the first day of class. Please note: all field classes meet on CU Main Campus.
