Letter from the Directors

David and Deb
David and Deb

I learned early that the richness of life is adventure. Adventure calls on all faculties of mind and spirit. It develops self-reliance and independence. Life then teems with excitement.
-William O. Douglas

It's Our 20th Year!
In 1987, the mountains, rivers and desert plateaus beckoned to us and we moved to Jamestown, Colorado from Ohio. As outdoor science educators with a keen interest in adventure, what could be more perfect than the idea of offering kids the opportunity to experience Colorado's magnificent natural environment! With the enthusiastic support of the Science Discovery director, our first trip to the Great Sand Dunes in 1989 was a great success. Since then each summer we have embarked on exciting learning adventures with lively students and amazing staff, discovering the rich resources in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico. We have teamed up with University of Colorado faculty and graduate students as well as field experts from Mission:Wolf, National Monuments and Parks, CU Mountain Research Station, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Yellowstone Association and Canyonlands Field Institute, and various licensed outfitters and guides.  These connections have deepened the experiences and brought geology, river ecology, archaeology, wildlife biology, natural history and cultural history to life. On top of that, we emphasize the importance of building a positive community and on self-reliance. This summer we are thrilled to add a new trip to the lush Pacific Northwest where we'll be immersed in marine sciences and coastal adventures!

Yes, the beat does go on….

Parents, we know that you have a choice in programs for your child. We hope you will join us this year on a Science Discovery wilderness camp. Wolves, marine life, sand dunes, ancestral Native American ruins, trails, rivers and rocks all beckon!  We are certain that your child's summer adventure with Science Discovery will be worth the investment.
