¿Qué onda mi raza? Well four years later and I am still here at CU-Boulder. I am excited to be beginning my fifth year at the university, and I don’t think that I will ever be ready to graduate. During the past four years here at CU, I have been lucky and privileged to have experienced all that I have. From taking classes that helped to define my revolutionary consciousness, to creating relationships that I will cherish forever, to spending a year in México I have truly had the time of my life. I have also had the opportunity to be involved with some incredible student organizations on campus such as UMAS y MEChA and the nation’s largest Latino fraternity…the most honorable Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc.
After being confused for the first three years of my college experience, I finally dropped the English major and declared Ethnic Studies as my primary major…probably the smartest thing I have done here at CU. With a concentration in American Indian Studies and Chicana/o Studies, I have dedicated myself to reclaiming the histories that I have been denied throughout my entire life, giving voices to the ancestors that have been silenced and forgotten, and enacting real revolutionary change so that that this country and world become free and equal.
Although I may not be ready to leave, I know that there comes a time when we all must move on to new things in our lives. I look forward to possibly participating in the Teach for America program after I graduate next May, and plan to return to a university campus someday to pursue a career as an Ethnic Studies professor. I am hopeful for what the world has to offer and am passionate about making it a better place.
