My name is Angelo Maestas.  I am a graduating this summer with a BA in Sociology. I am a first-generation college student who was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. For the past four years I have been actively involved in various programs and student groups, particularly the Minority Arts & Sciences Program and Sigma Lambda Beta-Latino Fraternity. Last fall was by far one of my most memorable semesters in my college career. Through a study abroad program called "Semester at Sea," I had the opportunity of traveling to three different continents and visiting eleven different countries. With each day in any particular country I was confronted with language barriers, diverse cultures, new foods, different customs, beauty and global inequalities. Through my incredible journey I was presented with a myriad of opportunities to write in my travel journal, paint, and write poetry. Upon graduation I plan on joining the Peace Corps to work with youth and community development projects.
