I am a Senior at CU,  planning on graduating this May. I am from Santa Rosa,California, I major in Art History, and some of my hobbies are dance and intramural volleyball. I enjoy writing creative pieces and have used several of the writing courses I have taken here at CU as an outlet to further explore important social issues and debates. This essay in particular was a final writing project sparked by my interest in the conflicting message I was getting between social perceptions and stereotypes of homosexual behavior and the way in which I saw that behavior paralleled in the hyper-masculine (often anti-homosexual) arena of sports. This paper definitely illustrated the depth of social issues surrounding homosexuality and the sports arena, but it was my hope and goal to clarify some of my own personal questions and concerns regarding what I felt to be a conflicting social message. I hope to create more pieces such as this one which grapples with tough social issues and questions, and also to use the tools that I developed in my writing courses to further pursue writings in art history and the art world in general.
