Politics

One of the tag-lines for the upcoming Presidential Election is that it represents a "call for change." This call for change, however, is about more than just disgust for the eight-year debacle that is the Bush presidency; it is also about a desire for a reshaping of the American political terrain. Hillary--an acerbic, experienced, and practically-minded female candidate--and Barack--a charismatic, inspiring, reform-oriented black candidate--are imagined as mediums for political change. But far more promising than the actual candidacy of either a white woman or a black man is a possible rethinking of what politics means in the lives of Americans. A (not-so-)new medium of political change appears to be taking shape apart from the promise of a "diverse" presidential candidate: communities of Americans are beginning to talk about politics again. These discourses offer empowering media for all Americans to shape their political realities.

We offer this space as a safe place to begin a transformative political discourse, a medium to our promised future. Or, at least, a place to rid ourselves of the bad taste of our present media.
