Mission
The mission of the McNeill Mathematics Program is to provide access for educational development and excellence in mathematics for all students. The Program is especially committed to serving those who traditionally have not had equal access in these academic areas.
In our mathematics program we teach for-credit courses in pre-calculus and calculus that help students prepare for majors requiring advanced mathematics. We also teach college algebra and quantitative reasoning courses for students in non-technical majors. All of our courses meet core curriculum requirements or MAPS requirements.
Mathematics is often the barrier that keeps many students from entering the academic area of their choice. Our work is to change that barrier into an entryway. Through our commitment to a program that is mathematically rigorous yet accommodating of various entry-level abilities, the McNeill Mathematics Program creates opportunities for students to pursue their interests in higher mathematics and the sciences. The benefits of our program include:
- Class sizes of 20 students or less.
- Lectures that include a significant amount of active student participation.
- A classroom climate that supports all students.
- Labs two days per week which provide an opportunity for in-depth problem-solving, group work and mentoring by an undergraduate instructor assistant.
- Academic support outside of class through group office hours and individual tutoring.
- Teaching to all learning styles.
- A team approach to instruction.
- A collaborative approach to learning.
- Consistent and clear feedback to students.
