What if the Placement Exam Material Does Not Feel Like a Review?
Placement Exam material should be a review of material you have already mastered. If you find that this material is not a review of mastered material, please contact a McNeill Math Director to discuss options.
What Review am I REQUIRED to DO?
3-10 hours of study. Plan to spend 3-10 hours studying (doing Review Problems and the Practice Placement Exam) prior to the Placement Exam.
- Review problems. Complete the Review problems in order to take the Practice Placement Exam. CHECK your answers with the solutions.

Textbook Pages (to use as a reference or for additional practice)
- Practice Exam. Take the Practice Placement Exam as though it were the actual exam after you review. Time yourself and do not use any reference materials such as the textbook pages, your own work, the solutions, or a calculator.
Practice Placement Exam
- Self-Grade and Study. Self-grade the Practice Placement Exam using the solutions. Use the results (any incorrect problems or missing steps) to fine-tune and do more problems to further study for the exam.
WARNING! No calculators are allowed on the Placement Exam. Study without one!
Bring your work to the exam. Bring the completed Practice Placement Exam and the completed Review problems in order to take the placement exam.
