What is TASC

TASC stands for TRIO Advanced Study Community. TASC is a program that helps students explore their fields of interest, buildresearch skills necessary for graduate school work, and support you in yourundergraduate studies.

TASC:

  • encourages participants to apply for internships, or activities that will help clarify career goals and develop research skills.
  • organizes informational workshops where students can network with faculty and graduate students from key university programs.
  • Provides a format and venue in which participants select and shadow researching mentors who then supervise them with their current research or assist the student in designing their own projects.

Who qualifies?

Freshmen and sophomores considering post-graduate education, who have a strong GPA and who fulfill the following criteria:

  • are low income.txuepresenting
  • are first generation (neither parent received a four-year degree.) OR
  • have a disability AND
  • are fulfilling TASC pre-requisites.

 

Apply to TASC

We are looking to develop a collaborative community in which all members contribute to the academic and personal growth of their peers. In order to create such a community, all participants need to fully engage in a set of core activities that will enable them to start an informed dialogue about the process of exploring graduate school opportunities.

Prospective TASC students need to demonstrate a commitment to the TASC program by fulfilling the following prerequisites:

TASC Prerequisites

  1. Take an Interest Inventory through Career Services
  2. Have one of your classes' writing assignments proofread by a SASC writing specialist or AEP staff (leave a photocopy of the draft with the proofreader comments in AEP so we can identify your writing needs and help you in the areas you need to improve)Pakou presenting
  3. Attend one of the AEP time management workshops.
  4. Attend the "Personal Hologram Workshop". If you are unable to attend this workshop because of time conflicts let us know your time availability and we will offer this workshop at a time more convenient for you.
