Peer Educator Program Mission Statement
The Peer Educator Program supports and promotes the work of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).

Peer Educator Program Narrative and Job Description
The Peer Educator Program supports and promotes the work of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).  Peers provide a much needed student perspective which helps CAPS get a better pulse on the campus community and its needs.
Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with various screenings throughout the year (e.g. depression, substance abuse, anxiety, eating disorders),
  • Participating in PR duties, such as flyering, chalking, creating CIR bulletin boards,
  • Meeting with CAPS staff,

The peer educator will have weekly hours at CAPS, two to five hours per week, and will meet with the student assistant of the Peer Educator Program every week for supervision/check-in.

Peer Educator Job Expectations

  • Adhere to the above job description.
  • Peer Educator will be responsible for keeping track of her schedule/hours.
  • Peer Educator will also notify the student assistant of her weekly hours and any absences.
  • Peer Educator may use CAPS equipment to complete her job duties.

Peer Educator Training includes:

  • Explanation of Confidentiality
  • Background check
  • Attendance at Sexual Harassment Training Session
  • Calculation of work study hours
  • Orientation to CAPS
  • Introductions to CAPS counselors/interns
  • Location of Outgoing mail/staff mailboxes
  • Usage of copy machine/code
  • Location of break room, refrigerator, restroom
  • Procedures for in-person and phone contact
  • Location of shredder for confidential recycling
  • Training on Phones-dialing on and off campus, holds, transfers, long distance code, & fax machine

Current Peer Educators

Colin

Colin Bosma is a Peer Educator for the Counseling and Psychological program (CAPS). Colin is currently a Student at the University of Colorado and is majoring in psychology. He has mostly worked through a non-profit organization called TEENS, Inc in Nederland Colorado. There he worked as a Peer Supervisor, Assistant Director of the Guide Program, and for Mountain Youth Core. Through these occupations he has worked with the community by fundraising for things like a skate park for Nederland Colorado, which is currently under construction, and sending youth on field trips. He has also helped create and facilitate a holistic health workshop that was experienced by youth all over Boulder County. He brings a broad knowledge of promoting and developing programs aimed towards the well being of the community, which he intends to apply to helping the CAPS program flourish.
