Walter Beamer is a product of the lighting program at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he received his BS in architectural engineering. Lighting was the primary focus of his undergraduate education. His next step took him to Aspen, Colo., where he worked as a lighting designer with the firm of Robert Singer & Associates.

Beamer returned to the University of Colorado for graduate school. During this period, he split time between lighting and acoustics and received an MS and PhD in civil engineering. His primary focus during this time was radiative transfer methods for acoustics. Upon completion of his graduate studies, he spent several years working in both the lighting and acoustical fields, in the U.S. and abroad.

From 2012 to 2016, Beamer served as senior instructor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he taught courses in illuminating engineering and acoustics within the Building Systems Program. He currently works at Acuity Brands Lighting.
