Overview of Services

When you step off the elevator you’ll see our administrative assistant. Lulu Davis is our "gatekeeper". This means she’ll be the person you contact initially for all the scheduling done at the GCRC. The extension is 5-3056 and if she is unable to take your call, just leave a message and she’ll be in touch. She can place subjects, who have parked out front in the computer to avoid any parking tickets. She is the person to see for the subject information form and the HIPPA form which is mandatory for every research participant. In terms of all the paperwork the subject information form is filled out after the consent form is completed. We will need the original consent form (which is filed in the medical record), a copy needs to go to the participant and a copy will be filed in the specific protocol binder. We maintain and adjust the master schedule for the entire GCRC staff. There is a continual update on the web site schedule which is always available and can be found at: http://www.colorado.edu/Research/gcrc/Pro

Directly behind the front receptionist is the Administrative Manager: Mary Dang. As you proceed down the hall, room 377 has the workspaces for the nurses and the medical technologist. The nurses are David Bynum, Patrick White, Debra Coady, and Nancy Hyde. Each of the RN’s is a primary protocol coordinator. This means that whatever study you are working with you will always have a contact person for that study. But, please remember that every nurse is available to help you out. The nurses e-mail addresses and extensions are listed below:

  • Nurses provide direct research protocol support, including intravenous catheter placement, ECG recordings and interpretations, conventional and ambulatory blood pressure measurements, drug infusions, and central venous and arterial line infusions, maintenance, and blood sampling.
  • Conduct systematic and continuous assessment of research subject’s health status from admission to discharge.
  • Maintain proper records associated with research protocol support.
  • Review research protocols to determine the procedures required for each protocol.
  • EVERY nurse has Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.

Some things to know:

  • All consents require black ink.
  • Anytime a new subject is consented, please let the nurses know that he/she is ready to be seen for the medical history/physical.
  • Medical histories and physicals are done on every volunteer in every study. By doing this we are able to move the participants through the process more efficiently.
  • Every bed needs to have linen, blanket, and pillowcases changed after anyone has been in the bed (staff member or research participants). Please leave the room as it was found with equipment returned and tables and counters cleared.
  • Any equipment which needs to be plugged in, please make sure that it is (Dinamap, Colins, IV pump). If you’re not sure please ask one of the staff members.
  • Linen is in each room in the cabinet above the sink/counter area and is labeled. If you don’t find any please let us know or check another room.
  • There is a list with assigned responsibilities for an emergency on the cabinet door in each exam room. Please familiarize yourself with the location of the list in each room. We keep a crash cart in the Integrative Physiology Lab (better known as Core Lab).
