Medical Support
The medical staff at the CU Boulder GCRC includes physicians, a nurse manager, research nurses and a ward clerk. This staff oversees a research unit that consists of four protocol rooms, one examination room, and two subject interview rooms. The ward clerk assists the nursing staff with scheduling visits, checking subjects in, answering incoming phone calls and other duties as well. The primary goal of the medical staff is to ensure that the patient receives proper medical attention and care during the experimental procedures.
Role of the Protocol Nurse Coordinator
A research nurse will be assigned to the role of Protocol Nurse Coordinator after a protocol has received final approval from the SAC. The Protocol Nurse Coordinator functions as a liaison between the GCRC nursing staff and the investigator's research team, working with the investigator to facilitate implementation and proper conduct of the study.
The Protocol Nurse Coordinator will also assist with the preparation of standard protocol orders and help identify what GCRC and investigator resources are required. However, it is the investigator’s responsibility to provide any special equipment or supplies not available at the GCRC. Please note that, because of the rotating nurse schedule, the Protocol Nurse Coordinator may facilitate an investigator’s study, but may not always be directly involved with the experimental procedures.
