Integrative Physiology Core Laboratory

The Integrative Physiology Core Laboratory (IPCL) at the CU Boulder GCRC is available to investigators with approved protocols. The laboratory is designed to provide high quality data collection for autonomic-cardiovascular measurements, body composition, exercise-related tests, and indirect calorimetry. The equipment available for use includes: a dual energy X-ray absorptiometer (DEXA) for body composition and bone density analysis, a Track Master 425 treadmill with an associated MedGraphics Ultima CardiO2/CP metabolic cart for exercise oxygen consumption measurements, a MedGaphics Face Tent & indirect calorimetry software for resting oxygen consumption measurements, a Toshiba PowerVision 6000 & Acuson Aspen Ultrasound and a microneurography nerve traffic analysis system. Please note that equipment and services may be added depending upon their need by investigators. Please contact Mary Jo Reiling, the Core Laboratory Technical Coordinator, at (303) 735-1377 for a complete list of laboratory services and for assistance in determining how to use the currently offered services.

Results from tests performed in the Core Laboratory at the Boulder GCRC are available through the GCRC server or placed in your designated mailbox at the GCRC. The GCRC Informatics Manager and laboratory personnel will work with you to set up a system that works best for your research.

If Core Laboratory Support is requested, please contact one of the Core Laboratory Director, Bob Mazzeo at (303) 492-1509 for assistance as you are preparing the "Request for Core Laboratory Support" section in your protocol application. The SAC reviews requests for laboratory support along with the overall review of the protocol. Since a protocol approval is based on its scientific merit, be sure to clearly present your justification for Core Laboratory support in the written protocol. Once the protocol has been approved, the laboratory directors and staff will work with you to determine how to manage the requested laboratory tests. For information on blood & laboratory testing, please see section for "Blood Work & Tissue Samples".
