Welcome Back- Fall Deadlines

Friday, August 16, 2013

Dear Student,

Welcome to CU-Boulder! We want to make sure the start of school is as easy as possible. Below is a checklist of important items. You can complete most of these before coming to campus.

Check Your Portal

Check your "To Do" list in MyCUInfo for specific action items or requested information. Your “To-Do” list contains some of the action items you’ll need to complete – but not all of them. The rest are listed below.

Set Up Direct Deposit - Required

Refunds are deposited directly into students’ bank accounts. Students are required to sign up for direct deposit. Refunds can result from dropping a class, financial aid, waiving health insurance, etc. More information from the Bursar’s Office (bursar@colorado.edu).
Note: New/transfer students must attend orientation prior to signing up for direct deposit.

Apply for the College Opportunity Fund
(Colorado undergraduate residents only)
The College Opportunity Fund (COF) is the state’s method of providing state tax dollar support for in-state undergraduates. To receive COF, you must complete two steps. First, complete the one-time application at College Assist (http://cof.college-assist.org) and then authorize the use of funds in MyCUInfo. More information from the Bursar’s Office (bursar@colorado.edu).

Submit Your Final Transcript(s)

If you haven’t done so already, submit your final transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions (transcripts@colorado.edu) prior to the start of school. Students who do not complete this step will not be able to register for classes in a future term. Also, students with financial aid will not have that aid applied to their bill until this step is complete. More Information from the Office of Admissions (transcripts@colorado.edu).

Authorize Payers/Users
Bills are only online. If your parent or someone else needs to view and pay the tuition and fee bill on your behalf, you can set them up as an authorized payer. As the student, you are the account holder and ultimately you are still responsible for payment. More information from the Bursar’s Office (bursar@colorado.edu).

Authorize Your Financial Aid to Pay All University Charges
If you are receiving financial aid, you can authorize your aid to help pay all of your university charges. Otherwise your aid will only pay toward ‘allowable’ charges only as defined by the Department of Education to be tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board. More Information from the Office of Financial Aid (finaid@colorado.edu).

Complete Required Loan Documents

Federal Stafford and PLUS loans require entrance counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN) to be completed by the borrower, but typically this only has to be signed the first time a loan is borrowed. Both can be completed at studentloans.gov. Questions? Contact the Office of Financial Aid (finaid@colorado.edu).

Waive or Choose Health Insurance

The University of Colorado has a policy of mandatory health insurance coverage for all CU students. Because of this policy, students are automatically enrolled in the Student Gold Health Insurance Plan each academic year. Your tuition bill will be automatically charged $1,515 per semester unless you waive university coverage or select the Wardenburg Campus Care Plan ($175) every year. How to select or waive insurance. Questions? Contact the Wardenburg Health Center (studentinsurance@colorado.edu).

Register with the Selective Service

All males between the ages of 17 and 9 months and 26 years old must register with the Selective Service Office and certify to the University of Colorado that Selective Service registration is complete. (Colorado House Bill 1021, effective July 1, 1987). More Information from the Registrar’s Office (registrar@colorado.edu).

Sign up for the Two-Payment Plan

The Two-Payment Plan is optional and allows you to pay your tuition bill in two payments instead of one. The first installment is due September 4. The second installment, plus any additional charges and a one percent finance charge, is due October 9. More Information from the Bursar’s Office (bursar@colorado.edu).
