Most colleges/schools state specific criteria for in-residence credit, which must be completed for degrees or programs. A student’s course work is applied specifically toward their degree once admitted into the college/school and details of the criteria for each are listed below. Please see your academic advisor for further detail.
Students must complete a minimum of 45 credit hours in University of Colorado courses on the Boulder campus.
Of these 45 credits, a minimum of 30 credits must be in arts and sciences upper-division credit hours completed as a matriculated student in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder and at least 12 of these upper-division hours must be in the major.
A maximum of 6 credit hours taken at other University of Colorado campuses (CU-Denver and CU-Colorado Springs) can be counted toward the minimum 45 credits required on the Boulder campus.
Courses taken while on CU-Boulder study abroad programs, through CU-Boulder continuing education, or CU-Boulder correspondence courses are considered to be in residence.
Follows the Arts & Science (A&S) residency requirement – student completes degree in A&S, receives certificate only from education. At least 30 hours of course work of licensure must be taken while the student is officially enrolled as a student in the university.
The last 45 hours must be earned after admission and matriculation as an undergraduate engineering degree student at the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
Students must complete a minimum of 30 course credits within the Envriomental Design program. Students also must complete their last semester in residence as full-time students.
A candidate for a degree from the Journalism and Mass Communication program must earn the last 30 hours in residence at the University of Colorado. This may include courses taken on the Boulder, Denver, or Colorado Springs campus.
Students must complete 30 hours of business courses in residence on the Boulder campus after admission to the Leeds School of Business, including all 15 hours in the area of emphasis and the 9 hours in the (optional) area of application. Any business courses to be applied to a certificate must be taken in residence. Students must be in residence at the Boulder campus and must be registered as business degree students, during the term of graduation.
Of the hours required for an undergraduate degree, the last 56 credits must be completed in residence in the College of Music. Of these 56 credits, a minimum of 9 hours in applied music (private instruction) must be earned in this college for the BM and BME degrees, 6 hours for BA degree.
