Beginning Scuba
BEFORE you register be aware of the stated refund deadline of the course and clarify any questions you have that might prohibit you from completion of this course. There are NO transfers to another semester course. KNOW BEFORE you register as to your ability to complete this course. Scuba consists of pool and classroom sessions that PREPARE you for NAUI certification. The fee includes pool instruction, lectures (see lecture schedule) and equipment. The fee does not include an open water dive (approximately $220 through private arrangements with the instructor; this $220 covers everything but food and transportation) or lecture materials (approximately $35 - $60). If you wish to do your open water dive test, you may schedule it with the instructor. If you have any medical concerns (i.e. vision, sinus problems), please consult your physician prior to enrolling (epilepsy and asthma are medical conditions that unfortunately prohibit you from enrolling). The first class meets in the Rec Center Outdoor Program office. You must attend pool sessions and lectures (Intensive courses have lectures built into the meeting times).
Beginning Scuba (4 day course)
This course is completed in four quick days. The course will run twice a week for two weeks. Class meets at night, from 6:00pm to 11:00pm . The first class meets in the Outdoor Program Office on the first floor of the Recreation Center located next to the equipment checkout desk. Materials needed: swimsuit, t-shirt and socks for pool, and paper and pen.

Scuba Refresher
Need a review on your diving before heading to the blue waters? This class helps you refresh your scuba skills and can be arranged through the Outdoor Program office. You will attend the first day of a Beginning Scuba course. You must bring your current Open Water Certification to the class. You will be in both the classroom and the pool.

Master Diver
The curriculum includes compass navigation, night diving, computer diving, rescue, etc. A $75 equipment fee/student kit is required. Lodging, transportation and meals at dive sites are NOT included and range from $30-60 per day. A maximum of three dives can be done on any day. To complete certification, a minimum of eight dives are required in any combination of dates.

Scuba Rescue and Diving Techniques
This course includes assists, transports, rescues and exits. The format consists of two classroom sessions, one pool session and three open water dives. Both a skills test and a written exam are required to qualify students. See fall guide for prerequisite insert. The NAUI dive rescue equipment/study kit ($45) is required for the class. Advanced Scuba and Scuba Rescue may be taken simultaneously. Transportation and lodging are not included in the class fee. All Rescue classes meet on Thursdays.

Scuba Divemaster Program
The divemaster program is the first step in Scuba Diving Leadership training. By being involved with scuba training from the Basic Course level through Diver Rescue Training, the divemaster student receives a well-rounded exposure to Divemaster Training. The course lasts one year and requires assistance in pool classes and open water training dives.

NAUI Instructor Program
This is the final step in scuba diving leadership training. It results in certification as an open water scuba instructor through NAUI. The program involves teaching theory and training, pool and open water teaching skills, equipment maintenance, and class organization along with safety techniques. Course registration cost is $60. Additional certification fees are $840 and include texts, instructor registration, instruction, and equipment use. Class time is spread out through the semester with the final evaluation dive in the spring semester.
**You must get prior approval with the Pool Manager before using your own scuba equipment in the Rec Center Pools.
All or part of the CU Outdoor program is conducted on public lands under special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. National Park Service, Boulder County Open Space and/or Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.
