Outdoor
Program Philosophy
The Outdoor Program exists to provide outdoor recreational experiences
that emphasize skill acquisition, SAFETY, positive group dynamics, environmental
awareness and FUN! These quality experiences are fostered through small
groups of 4-12 people on single to multi-day trips. Whether it be by
land, water or snow, we hope you will take a day or more to slip quietly
away with us on an adventure in the outdoors.
Registration
Info and Deadlines
Before you register, READ the REFUND deadline. Before you register CLARIFY
any questions you have regarding your ability to participate in the
activity. All refund deadlines are seven days prior to any pre-trip
meeting, scuba start date or rock wall class unless otherwise noted.
Registration begins the FIRST day of the semester. You must be a Student
Recreation Center member to participate in the Outdoor Program. When
you've selected the activity you wish to participate in, please go to
the cashier located in the recreation center main lobby with your payment
and Buff OneCard. The registration deadline for all activities is the Wednesday prior to the pre-trip meeting unless otherwise stated. Early registration
is to your advantage due to the small group size of our activities.
All outings have minimum and maximum numbers for group size.
Cancellations
The Outdoor Program reserves the right to cancel trips due to minimal
sign-up, inclement weather, or scheduling conflicts. The program is
conducted on a non-profit basis and can only ensure minimum registration
fees with proper student/instructor ratios. The Outdoor Program
assumes no responsibility for notifying participants of trip cancellations
or postponements if either no phone number or an incorrect phone number
is in the Rec Center computer system. Please update your information
upon registering for a course.
Pre-Trip
Meetings are Mandatory
Certain activities require attendance of a pre-trip meeting, which will
provide you with information related to your enjoyment and safety in
the activity. Bring your health insurance company name and policy number
to this meeting. Pre-trip meetings are held in Outdoor Program Office located the upper level of the Rec Center near the west enterance . Failure to attend
this meeting may result in loss of trip fees and inability to participate
in the course.
Refunds
For Outdoor Program Offerings
Contact the Outdoor Program regarding questions on participation PRIOR
to registering. Refunds are NOT given following registration in an activity
if a participant discovers they cannot complete the course. CLARIFY
your ability to participate PRIOR to registration. The refund deadlines
are 7 days prior to any pre-trip meeting, scuba class or rock wall class,
unless otherwise noted. If you cancel prior to the stated refund deadline,
you are entitled to a partial refund (minus a 20% processing fee). If
you cancel following the refund deadline, NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN.
This refund
policy still applies for emergency situations and for illness.
Inclement
Weather Rescheduling Procedure
In the event that an activity is rescheduled due to inclement weather
you may receive a full refund if you contact the Outdoor Program office
(303-492-6080) by noon on the Wednesday following the original scheduled
trip date. If you do not contact the Outdoor Program office by
noon on Wednesday we assume that you are committed to participate in
the rescheduled event and therefore forfeit your right to a refund.
Transfers
Transfers are only possible in certain circumstances and before the refund deadline.
For all transfers, come to the Outdoor Program office.
Equipment
for Activities
The Outdoor Program supplies most of the equipment required at no additional
cost on the majority of outings. If you provide your own equipment,
there is no discount off of the stated fee. Due to the broad
range of shoe sizes for rock climbing and skiing we cannot guarantee
this provision. Outdoor Program equipment is entry level gear. If you
are dissatisfied with what we provide you may always rent gear of your
choice at a local outdoor shop at your own expense.
Food
You are expected to provide your own food for all activities unless
the course description states that food is provided. On multi-day trips,
food is usually purchased by the group and the cost is divided equally.
Menu planning takes place at the pre-trip meeting.
Departure
Trips meet and depart from the Student Recreation Center loading dock
(near the lower entrance next to the tennis courts) unless otherwise
stated.
All
or part of the CU Outdoor program is conducted on public lands under
special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest
Service, U.S. National Park Service, Boulder County Open Space and/or
Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.
