Safety Tips/Rules
and Regulations
Wear Appropriate Footwear
Proper shoes should be worn to prevent injury. An aerobic shoe should
consist of the following components: adequate support, thick leather uppers
for durability, firm mid-sole for stability (arch support), cushioning
and overall comfort. Running or everyday shoes are not recommended because
the features are designed for heel-toe-strike versus toe-heel-strike used
in aerobics. Appropriate footwear is required in all aerobic classes.
Arrive
On Time and Stay the Duration
By arriving late and leaving early you will decrease the benefits of the
structured workout. For your own safety and in the best interest of the
entire class, please be punctual. For injury prevention, once the stretching
is complete (approximately 10 minutes after class begins) you will not
be permitted to enter the room.
Stay
within Class Format
The instruction program supports the theory that a well balanced class
with a warm-up, stretch, low intensity, high intensity, muscle shaping
and closing stretch sequence is fundamental to a safe workout. Studies
have shown that risk of injury is significantly higher if you deviate
from a carefully designed format. Classes are not designed for the use
of props unless indicated in the brochure description and supplied by
the instruction office. (Hand held, wrist and ankle weights, or rubber
bands are not permitted outside of the above guidelines.)
Know
Your Limits
Even though the classes have been carefully structured for safety, it
is your responsibility to go at your own pace and keep your personal safety
in mind. Please:
- Check your heart
rate.
- Do not chew
gum.
- Monitor your
performance through the perceived exertion rate (Be able to talk comfortably
without breathlessness.)
- Ask instructor
if further explanation is needed.
Keep in mind that all class formats can be modified in intensity by the
participant. If a class seems too intense or too easy, ask the instructor
for the appropriate modifications.
As a courtesy to all members, turn off all cell phones during
class participation.
